Aft Fuse Time

February 16, 2010

Hey look! Something that resembles a fuselage is now in the garage. After prepping the stiffeners, I temped together the aft fuselage. One hiccup (see below) but otherwise looks pretty straightforward. I need to go back and trim the stiffeners a touch to fit just right. The 706 bulkhead needed a little “encouragement” to get aligned with the holes. Finally, I can confirm that the F-711 and -712 bulkheads and tailcone area look like a bear to get lined up and riveted. Should be interesting challenge. Up next: The battle with steel tailwheel mount.

These are 2 of the 12 ends (2x6 stiffeners) that must be trimmed to fit in the bulkheads.

After looking away to throw a trimming in the garbage can, my bandsaw reached out and bit the J-channel. Grrrr. 15 minutes and part is reordered. Can't wait to see what shipping charge is for 8 foot part.

Another angle of aft fuse. Yes I am a proud papa tonight.

Canopy Deck Rails

February 8, 2010

Finished the Longerons, for now, by fitting and drilling the canopy rails. Instructions say to cut out the slit for the HS attach bars, but I am going to hold off until I fit the tail section together for a more accurate fit.

The pair together. Lovely.
